Phase 6: Develop Accessible Prompts
The goal of this phase is to develop prompts that support students’ use of the 3Ds as they make sense of each part of the storyline.
Phase 6 Guidance
The prompts are written so that students incrementally make sense of the phenomenon. Each prompt should require students to use at least two dimensions.
This phase consists of two steps.
Draft prompts for each part of your assessment storyline. Consider how the prompts, both individually and together, can help scaffold students' 3D sensemaking of the phenomena.
Construct ideal student responses: Write an ideal response for each prompt in student language.
Review the prompts using the Prompt Checklist.

Tips
Every prompt does not have to be 3D. However, there should be moments in which students are integrating their responses in a 3D way.
Consider student interest and identity as you write prompts to help students engage and connect with the task.
Pivot between prompts and ideal responses to ensure alignment with the storyline and targeted dimensions.
Ensure that students explain the phenomenon by answering the driving question by the end of the task.
Use the Resources for Prompt Development to support integrating the SEPs and CCCs.
